Learning Employment Academic Program (LEAP)

What is LEAP?

LEAP is a required program of BHP that will work with you to help you achieve your goals. It will provide you with staff    support and referrals to community resources to help overcome any barriers to your success.

What are the benefits of your participation?

  • Earn Rent Creditsthis is money that reduces your share of the rent for the completion of your Action Plan goals.
  • Availability of Mini-Grants– these grants can be put towards goal related expenditures (ex: clothes for work).
  • Connections to Community Resources ability to connect with community resources that can help you reach your goals.
  • Rent Stability  Your rental share will not increase due to increased income while you are working towards the goals in your Action Plan.

Who must participate in LEAP?

  • Anyone receiving housing assistance from BHP that is 18-54 years old is required to participate.

Those residents that will be exempt from participation are those who are disabled, or are the full time caregiver disabled person.

What is required of a participant?

  • Sign a Contract of Participation which outlines your responsibilities as a LEAP Participant.
  • Create an Action Plan that will define your goals and those steps you will take toward its completion.
  • Meet with the LEAP Coordinator once every three months to review your Action Plan, discuss any challenges and/or progress, and connect with community resources to overcome barriers.
  • Work on your goals and modify your Action Plan as needed.

What types of goals can I work on?

Any goal that you can think of is  something you can work toward in your own Action Plan. Want to go back to school, get a job, earn a promotion, get additional training,  home ownership, or even developing a hobby. As long as it is your goal and you are making progress toward its completion.

Success is defined by you!

What if I don’t have a goal in mind?

During your meetings with the LEAP Coordinator we will  work together to figure this out. Sometimes it is tough to look beyond the here and now to think about the future, and we don’t have to figure it all out now.

Everyone’s goals will be different.
