Resident Opportunity & Self Sufficiency (ROSS)

Resident Opportunity & Self Sufficiency is a program designed to assist Brattleboro Housing Partnerships public housing residents with finding and accessing community services that results in making a positive influence on their lives.  While public housing provides a basis for economic stability, the role of the Resident Opportunity & Self Sufficiency Coordinator is to respond to specific resident needs and to foster community development throughout all BHP Public Housing properties.  Through the development of community events and referrals to effective services, it is the goal of the Resident Opportunity & Self Sufficiency Coordinator to provide the resources necessary to enhance the common experience of living in public housing along with providing the tools required to overcome barriers, identify and support reaching personal goals and develop a sense of empowerment.  Some examples of what the Resident Opportunity & Self Sufficiency Coordinator provides are:

  • The organization of social events
  • Linking residents with different social service agencies
  • Referrals to computer literacy classes
  • Develop financial literacy
  • Enhance workforce development
  • Support in improving health needs

By providing the residents of the BHP with referrals to general services, creating avenues to become more economically self-sufficient and providing activities geared towards developing the neighborhood youth, the Resident Opportunity & Self Sufficiency Coordinator hopes to provide a positive impact on the public housing community.
